Requirements:

  • Age 18–26 at the time of application.
  • No family relationship with the host family.
  • Host family speaks German as a native language; at least one adult must be a German/EU/EEA/Swiss citizen from a German-speaking region.
  • Au pair must demonstrate basic knowledge of German (A1) (recognized ALTE-certified test; in Kenya, e.g., Goethe-Institut, ÖSD).

Documents:

  • Passport + copy, VIDEX applications, biometric photos.
  • Resume, letter of motivation (reasons, benefits, plans).
  • Au pair contract (BA

template) signed by both parties.

  • Au pair questionnaire from the host family.
  • Certificate of residence for the host family (household composition).
  • School/education certificates (e.g., KCSE, higher qualifications if applicable), employment references.
  • Proof of intent to return (employer/university confirmation).
  • A1 language certificate, health insurance for the entire au pair period; visa fee €75, appointment via waiting list (currently approx. 1-year wait according to the appointment portal).
