7.1 Skilled Workers with Vocational Training (§ 18a)

7.2 Skilled Workers with a University Degree (Section 18b)
For university graduates who do not meet the Blue Card salary threshold but are taking up qualified employment; requires a recognized university degree, a qualified job offer, and, if applicable, BA approval.
7.3 EU Blue Card (Section 18g of the Residence Act)
Purpose: Highly qualified academic professionals with above-average salaries, facilitated permanent residence, mobility within the EU.
Requirements:
- University degree (German or equivalent) – proof via ANABIN/ZAB.
- Employment contract for a qualified position, at least 6 months.
- Meeting the minimum annual salary threshold (for 2025: €48,300 or €43,759.80 for shortage occupations/entry-level professionals; for 2026, adjusted figures of approximately €45,934.20 or €50,700 – check current details in each case).
- If applicable, approval from the Federal Employment Agency for a reduced salary threshold.
Documents: Passport, VIDEX forms, photos, employment contract, university transcripts, ANABIN printout/ZAB report, BA approval (if necessary), health insurance.
Prospects for permanent residence: Blue Card holders can generally obtain a settlement permit under simplified conditions after 21–33 months of qualified employment and pension contributions (language level B1/B2 required).
